Introduction and Specifications
For another year, Xiaomi has been bringing the smaller vanilla Xiaomi 17 flagship along with the Ultra model globally. The 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max remain exclusive to China for now.
But for those looking for a compact, yet powerful smartphone, this is good news. The Xiaomi 17, like its predecessors, feels like a solid all-rounder and probably one of the best alternatives to the more popular Samsung Galaxy S26, iPhone 17 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro.
Once again, the compact Xiaomi flagship is equipped with the latest top-tier Qualcomm chipset, which in this case is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It also uses the same compact 6.3-inch display as its predecessor, with a 120Hz refresh rate and support for all HDR standards. It has also been marketed as somewhat brighter than before.

The camera hardware remains largely unchanged, with a triple 50MP camera setup at the back, one of which is a dedicated 2.6x telephoto snapper with close focusing distance for excellent macros. Like the rest of the Xiaomi 17 lineup, the smaller 17 also gets a selfie overhaul. The 32MP front-facing camera is eventually being replaced by an improved 50MP unit with autofocus.
Although not much has changed from the previous generation, there is one big upgrade that international users will appreciate and that is the battery. The global unit is now equipped with a massive 6330 mAh battery – it’s not as impressive as the Chinese model’s 7,000 mAh, but it’s a solid upgrade from last year’s Xiaomi 15’s 5,240 mAh. This is very impressive, as the external dimensions are practically unchanged.
Another upgrade is that wired charging has been increased to a maximum of 100W, and reverse wireless charging is now up to 22.5W.

Unboxing the Xiaomi 17
Since we received the European retail package, it doesn’t come bundled with the typical 100W charger that you’ll need to get maximum charging speeds from the phone, but Xiaomi sells it separately. However, the USB-C to USB-A cable is still in the box.
