Actor Sudesh Berry has sparked controversy after praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a podcast with Accompany Akki, calling him the “incarnation of Lord Vishnu” and saying that if he got a chance, he would wash Modi ji’s feet and drink the water. Berry questioned the contribution of those involved in the protests and said that public service should focus on welfare work. “These are all useless people. They have no work for the country. If you really want to serve the society, build gardens for children, build old-age homes for senior citizens and treat people. Just sitting at Jantar Mantar and protesting will achieve nothing,” he said.
He also took a dig at the name of the organization, saying, “They created a party using the name of some strange creature. Why don’t they create a hyena party?” Speaking about Prime Minister Modi, Berry defended him against criticism and said, “What wrong has Narendra Modi done? Let him sell tea. He has traveled around the world selling tea.”
When Berry was reminded that he had once washed his mother’s feet as a mark of respect, he said that if he ever got the chance he would do the same for the Prime Minister. He said, “Now I want to wash Modi ji’s feet and drink that water, if you can arrange a meeting with him. I have never met him and I do not know him personally. Just as we have not seen God but still worship him, in the same way I respect Modi ji.”
Berry said his appreciation transcends political affiliation. “There is nothing wrong in that? I respect him as a human being, beyond parties and beyond politics,” he said.
He also said that “Ram Rajya has arrived” in India and praised Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saying they were working for the progress of the country.
On the professional front, Berry was last seen in a cameo in actor Sunny Deol’s film border 2 (2026).
Apart from Berry, actor-politician Kangana Ranaut had also criticized the CJP protests. This triggered a war of words with CJP member Saurav Das, while social media remained divided on his views.
