The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly marked some scenes Jan NayganDue to which the producers had to immediately approach the Madras High Court with a petition. The court has since reserved its order, leaving the film’s release date in limbo.

Jan Naygan It was submitted to the CBFC on 18 December, and following objections, about 27 cuts were made before being resubmitted on 22 December. Although the screening committee had reportedly recommended a U/A 16+ certificate, the official certificate did not arrive.

On January 5, the CBFC sent the film to the revising committee and asked the producers to contact its Mumbai office. With three days left for the release, KVN Productions moved the Madras High Court on 6 January, arguing that the delay was unnecessary and financially detrimental to the producers who have invested Rs 500 crore.

The CBFC told the court that the referral was due to an internal complaint by a board member alleging that the film hurt minority sentiments and concerns over defense force symbols. That evening, the makers postponed the January 9 release indefinitely. The court will give its verdict on Friday, hence the film could not be released on time.

As the legal proceedings continue, the industry is keeping a close eye in hopes of a speedy resolution and smooth release of the film. Directed by H Vinoth, Jan Naygan Vijay stars in the lead role, alongside Bobby Deol, Mamita Baiju, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj and others.
