Vivek Oberoi addressed rumors of leaving the film industry, clarifying that his accident on the sets in 2004 did not affect his ability to play physically demanding roles. The actor opened up about his recovery and the work he did after that.

Actor Vivek Oberoi on Tuesday issued a statement on rumors of his exit from the film industry. The 49-year-old clarified speculation about the 2004 accident and strongly denied claims that it left him unable to play “physically demanding roles”.

Recalling the incident, Oberoi said that although the accident was serious and life-changing at the time, it did not affect his ability to continue working as an actor.

He said, “Recently, there has been talk that an accident on the set affected my ability to play physically demanding roles, meaning I had to leave the industry because of it. The accident was serious. I suffered multiple fractures and had to undergo surgery, which included inserting an 18-inch titanium rod in my leg.”

Their skills, guidance and support made it possible to get back on my feet, dance and perform difficult action sequences so quickly after such a major injury. They did a fantastic job, for which I am deeply grateful.”

Describing his career as “complete”, Oberoi listed several films in which he worked after recovering from the accident.

He said, “Looking back, this accident was a setback to a fulfilling career, which would not have been possible without the extraordinary care, guidance and expertise of Dr. Irani and his team.”

The actor said that even after recovering, he continued to pursue his art. “It is because of him that I have been able to play some of my most challenging roles with ease, like Omkara (2006), Firing in Lokhandwala (2007), Mission Istanbul (2008), Prince (2010), krrish 3 (2013), and so much more, while pursuing the craft I love without compromise,” he concluded.
