They don’t care if you faint: Elli Avram calls out the hectic culture of Bollywood
Actress Elli Avram shares her experience in different industries, saying that South Indian film sets feel more calm and structured compared to the fast-paced shoots of Bollywood. She also said that the South offers more meaningful roles for women.

Having worked across multiple film industries, including Hindi and South, actor Elli Avram reflected on what really sets her apart – especially when it comes to the culture and opportunities for women on set.

He explained that the work environment in the South seems more structured and less chaotic. “I have had good experiences both in the South and in Bollywood. But I have found it more peaceful on the sets in the South,” he said, adding that communication there is often handled through walkie-talkies rather than shouting. In contrast, he described Bollywood sets as being more hectic and recalled that actors are often called for shots even during breaks.
He further added, “My experience in Bollywood has been that even if you eat, you are told that your shot is ready. It seems we don’t care if you have eaten or if you faint, the shot is ready.”
Aly clarified that his comments are not intended to compare industries, but to highlight differences in functioning. He also noted that a recent project with Netflix offered a more supportive work environment, which reshaped some of his earlier perceptions.
Speaking about roles for women, Elly said that she believes South Indian cinema offers more scope for content-driven characters, while Bollywood may still lean towards typecasting.
