CM Vijay and Sankgita divorce case: Hearing adjourned till August 7
The divorce petition of Chief Minister Vijay and Sankageetha Sornalingam was heard in the Chengalpattu Women’s Court on Monday morning. The court adjourned the case till August 7, keeping the proceedings pending.

The divorce petition of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and his estranged wife Sankageeta Sornalingam was heard at the Chengalpattu Women’s Court at 10:30 am on Monday. The hearing has been adjourned till August 7.
The ongoing divorce proceedings are a result of a petition filed by Sankgita in February, in which she alleged that Vijay was involved in an extramarital affair. The case was initially listed for April 20. After Vijay and Sankageetha did not attend the first hearing, the Chengalpattu family court had ordered them to appear on June 15.

In Sankageetha’s divorce petition, she accused Vijay of having an adulterous affair with a female actor, which she came to know about in 2021. She said, when confronted, Vijay repeatedly gave assurances to end the relationship.
The petition claimed that he not only continued the relationship but also went on trips and attended events with the female actor.
The petition also highlighted that she and her two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha, were subjected to humiliation. He claimed that the female actor shared pictures of public functions with Vijay on social media.
Sankageetha also alleged that Vijay withdrew the facilities already available to her and imposed financial restrictions and even restrictions on her free movement.
In her petition, she reiterated that she suffered severe mental trauma. On the basis of these claims, a case for divorce was filed under sections 27(1)(a) and 27(1)(d) of the Special Marriage Act.
Vijay and Sankgita got married in 1999 and now they want to end their 27-year-old marriage.
On the work front, Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) registered a historic victory against the two Dravidian parties – DMK and ADMK – that have ruled Tamil Nadu for nearly 60 years. The actor took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10.
His last film, Jana Nayagan, which was scheduled for a grand release in January, is still stuck with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after a member flagged scenes that violated certain rules. It was also reported that the film had political overtones which could prove influential for Vijay’s party in the recently held Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on 23 April.
