Watch: Silk Smita biopic announced on late actor’s 64th birth anniversary
A glimpse of Queen of the South Silk Smitha was released on her 64th birth anniversary. Chandrika Ravi will star as the iconic actor in this biopic.
On the occasion of the 64th birth anniversary of late actress Vijayalakshmi Vadlapati, popularly known as Silk Smitha, an announcement teaser of her upcoming biopic Silk Smitha – Queen of the South was released. The film stars actor Chandrika Ravi in the lead role, playing the iconic figure who had a significant presence in South Indian cinema in the 80s and early 90s.
Chandrika Ravi shared a glimpse of the announcement on her Instagram handle on Monday. Along with a three-minute preview of the biopic, Chandrika captioned her Instagram Stories, “Today in honor of Silk Smitha’s birthday, we present to you the first glimpse of Silk Smitha – the queen of the south.”

The video features popular music by Indian composer Ilaiyaraaja from the song Mella Mella from the 1984 film Vaazhakai, starring Silk Smitha. The announcement trailer begins with a scene in which Indira Gandhi sees the extensive media coverage of Silk Smitha, prompting her to inquire about the actor. Her colleague replied, “Madam, just as you are the Iron Lady, she is the Magnetic Lady.”
The glimpse shows Chandrika as Silk Smitha as she garners attention as she strolls down the street, engaging with a fan who is asking for her autograph on his chest and playing with street dogs . However, in her moments of solitude, she remains troubled by her career which has typecast her as a sex symbol and her past as Vijayalakshmi. As the video ends he remembers his mother’s warning.

Silk Smitha rose to fame as an actor and dancer in the Telugu and Tamil film industries. She also appeared in Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi films. His career spanned almost two decades and he had more than 400 films to his credit.
