Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

As Samsung gets ready to launch its new flagship, the last generation Galaxy S series saw a massive price cut. The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is expected to launch in early 2025. Ahead of its launch, the Samsung S23 Ultra has received a great discount on Amazon. The e-commerce website is offering 50 percent discount on the high-end models of the previous generation series. The Galaxy S23 series was launched in February 2023 and the launch price for the Ultra variant started at Rs 1,24,999 for the standard model. But now, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is selling at an effective price of Rs 74,999. You can read our detailed review of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra here. Although the discount is very attractive, is the phone still relevant? Let’s find out.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra at Rs 74,999

Amazon is selling the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra at 50 percent discount. Interestingly, there are no additional add-on offers on the e-commerce website. There is a flat discount on the device, its price has come down from Rs 1,24,999 to Rs 74,999.

But how relevant is it? Before we go any further down that line, let’s take a look at the details of the phone.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra comes with a 6.8-inch QHD+ display with 3088 x 1440 pixels resolution, Dynamic AMOLED panel, and 120Hz screen refresh rate. Undoubtedly, the screen dimensions are absolutely suitable for daily use. Furthermore, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is also expected to have the same display size, 6.8-inch. But when it comes to design, speculation is that the company is bringing a new style for the Galaxy S25 Ultra with rounded edges. The S23 Ultra offers an extremely sturdy build. And it comes in funky color options – green, phantom black, lavender and cream.

Talking about the processor, since the Galaxy S23 Ultra was launched a year ago, the processor is a bit old compared to other flagship devices. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Older but still better than many smartphones in the market. Out of the box, the phone runs on Android 13 with custom One UI 5.1 skip on top. This is one area that may hinder you in choosing this phone. While it promises 4 years of Android updates, buying the Galaxy S23 Ultra in late 2024 means some of those years have already passed. The Android 15 update arrived recently and this suggests that the S23 Ultra will be getting just one more update. Based on this timeline, the phone will become obsolete in a year or two.

The phone has a 200-megapixel camera, 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, 10-megapixel telephoto (with 3X optical zoom) and 10-megapixel telephoto (with 10X optical zoom). Samsung says it has an improved noise reduction technology that helps reduce noise in videos recorded in low light. There’s also a new Astro Hyperlapse mode for capturing star trails. The phone includes a 12-megapixel camera on the front for selfies and video calls. The front camera can now capture RAW photos and record HDR10+ videos.

It packs a 5000mAh battery that supports wired and wireless fast charging out of the box. But the phone does not come with a charger. The phone comes in three variants – 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, 12GB RAM + 256GB storage, 12GB RAM + 512GB storage and 12GB RAM + 1TB storage.

I think, if you’re only looking to invest for a few years, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra might be the phone for you. It comes with S-Pen and can handle tough games. So, this phone is worth considering, especially with such a discount.
