Introduction to Hades

The series begins with Inspector Hathi Ram explaining to his junior Ansari about these three FolkIt is mentioned in ancient texts. Heaven, earth and underworld are not mentioned just like that. It brilliantly makes the audience understand that division still exists in human life, with rich people being able to reach the heavenly realms and subjugate those lower than them.

In this scenario, Hathiram, who appears to be in a position of power, is revealed to be a person who is in the lower strata or the underworld. Despite being an inspector, he is ignored by his peers and looked down upon by his wife and his son, simply because he has not been able to manage a promotion over the years.

hammer solitaire and gang

With the entry of Hathoda Tyagi into the scene, Hathi Ram’s fortunes seem to be changing. Vishal Tyagi alias Hathoda Tyagi, along with Tope Singh, Mary Lyngdoh alias Cheeni and Kabir M have been caught by the DCP at the Yamuna bridge in Delhi. He is accused of attempting to murder famous journalist and news anchor Sanjeev Mehra (Neeraj Kabi). The case is given to Hathi Ram, who sees it as an opportunity to get a promotion.

The audience is introduced to their backgrounds and all four come from the lower strata of society. Hammer Tyagi got his name when he killed three of his cousins with a hammer for raping his sisters in school. The PT teacher introduces him to gangster Donulia alias Masterji, who becomes Tyagi’s idol and there is one thing he follows – a person who loves dogs cannot be a bad person.

This is the reason why Tyagi did not kill Sanjeev Mehra. He calls Masterji to confirm, who does not pick up, causing him to leave the mission.

Predator or prey?

Hathi Ram will now have to choose between duty and job. After Sugar is suspended and put in the women’s room after discovering she is transgender (another beautiful illustration of how there is no room for homosexuals), he sets out to discover the truth. It is here that he learns the truth about Donulia and his brother Gwala Gujjar. Another player who is part of the puzzle is politician Balkishan Bajpayee (Anup Jalota).

It is he who holds the key to the puzzle. By the end of the show, it was revealed that Donulia had died long ago, which is why he could not pick up Tyagi’s call. Gwala Gujjar is his brother and is the one who runs the entire business in his name and hides his death from the world and Bajpayee was planning to cross Gujjar instead of helping him in politics.

Sanjeev Mehra was a small pawn and the order for his death came not from Donulia but from Gujjar. Given his stature, there could have been a huge uproar over his death. Gujjar had shared the information with Bajpayee, who made another deal with Hathi Ram’s senior DCP Bhagat. He had to catch the gang red-handed and stage a fake encounter, remove the formidable Tyagi from Gujjar’s side and leave him unprotected. This also meant promotion of DCP. But, the plan was foiled thanks to a media van present at the scene and the fact that Mehra was not murdered also helps.

Tyagi faces trial but is heartbroken after learning about Donulia’s death. He finds a Rudraksha, which he considers a blessing from his Guru and ends his life after the test.

Season 2 will have no direct connection to the first season except for the characters and their backgrounds. Asif Khan will also reprise his role, as seen in the trailer. Now, it remains to be seen whether this season, which takes the action in the north-eastern state of Nagaland instead of the Hindi heartland, will be able to create the same intrigue, keeping the story as interesting and nuanced as its predecessor. and surpasses the first season.

Paatal Lok 2 will stream on Prime Video from January 17.
