Michelle Yeoh is opening up about how a pivotal moment with filmmaker Quentin Tarantino revived her career after she decided to quit action films.
Yeoh, who is famous for starring in several action films, recently appeared on The Graham Norton Show. He explained how he had once again considered not acting in action films after suffering a major stunt accident in Hong Kong.
While she was seriously considering the future, Yeoh met Tarantino, who was very enthusiastic and advised her to reevaluate her decision. He told her there were other ways to pursue what she wanted in action cinema.
The Wicked star said, “I was in Hong Kong and was depressed because I had a bad accident while filming a stunt. I was feeling depressed and reconsidering the whole action and thought maybe I should take a step back. Should go away.”
“When I met (Tarantino), he was very excited and he said if you love something, you have to find a better way to do it,” Yeoh told the chat show.
Although he hasn’t worked with Tarantino yet, Yeoh is always up for it. She recalled that during their conversation, he was honest with her about how unlikely she was to land certain roles like Kill Bill.
Yeoh recalled, “I’ve never worked with him, and when I asked him about Kill Bill and why he didn’t think of me, he said, ‘Nobody’s going to believe that Uma Thurman kicked your ass.’ Can!”
With this passion in his heart for the action genre, Michelle Yeoh has created incredible work, including Wing Chun, Supercop, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Master Z: Ip Man Legacy and many other classic action films. She recently appeared in the musical film Wicked alongside Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, and Jeff Goldblum.
