Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) in a report has highlighted that almost half of India’s adult population does not engage in enough physical activity. New data published in The Lancet Global Health reveals a worrying trend, showing that the prevalence of insufficient physical activity in India has increased from 22.3 percent in 2000 to 49.4 percent in 2022. The data highlighted that more women (57.2 percent) than men (42 percent) do not exercise enough in 2022. Agniveer’s family did not get any compensation from the government: Rahul Gandhi

The controversy over compensation to the family of Agniveer Ajay Kumar escalated further on Friday when Rahul Gandhi reiterated that the martyr’s family has not received compensation till date and alleged that the Modi government is discriminating against Agniveers. The Congress leader also shared a video on X in which the deceased Agniveer’s father has reportedly said that his family has received Rs 50 lakh as insurance from a private bank and Rs 48 lakh from the Army Group Insurance Fund. Gandhi said in the video that the martyr’s family has not received compensation and asked why they have not received the ex-gratia payment. He asked why the salary arrears have not been credited to the martyr’s family’s bank account. “The family of martyr Agniveer Ajay Kumar has not received any compensation from the government till date. There is a difference between ‘compensation’ and ‘insurance’. The payment has been made to the martyr’s family only by the insurance company,” Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X.

Hathras stampede prime accused surrenders in Delhi, claims his lawyer

Devprakash Madhukar, the prime accused in the July 2 Hathras stampede that claimed 121 lives, has been taken into custody by the Uttar Pradesh police after he surrendered in Delhi, his lawyer claimed on Friday night. Madhukar, the ‘mukhya sevadar’ of the satsang where the stampede took place, is the only accused named in the FIR lodged at Sikandar Rao police station in Hathras in connection with the incident. In a video message, Madhukar’s lawyer AP Singh claimed that his client has surrendered in Delhi, where he was undergoing treatment. “Today, we have got Devprakash Madhukar, who has been termed as the main organiser in the FIR in the Hathras case, surrendered as he was undergoing treatment in Delhi,” Singh said.
