Veteran actor and screenwriter Javed Akhtar saw back in Bollywood during his early struggle when he was sharing a room with someone and Shatrughan Sinha requested to join him. However, for our surprise, Javed rejected his request as he was uncertain that Shatrughan was going to manage a fare of 60 rupees.
In a conversation with mid-day on SIT with the Hitty Series, Javed Akhtar shared a light-hearted memory for his struggling days. He said how, after ‘Well’ in his career, he finally found a small room with a monthly rent of Rs 120. He shared that he divided with another person equally.
Talking about Shatrughan Sinha and his request that the experienced lyricist, however, refused, Akhtar said, “Toh me, I came to the enemy, how do you come to me, I am a ash ash ash you, I am Kamre Mein. Sakoge?

Javed Akhtar also shared that although he refused Shatrughan Sinha’s request to stay with him, he saw the actor’s infallible ‘confidence, style and flare’, which would later define his on-screen personality. However, even after he was rejected to share a room with him during the early days, the actor left his mark in Bollywood and is now one of the famous stars of the industry.
In the same interview, the experienced lyricist also opened in Mumbai in his early days when he went without a meal for more than two days. He admitted that the idea of getting food outside the Mahim Dargah never came back with him.
Javed Akhtar revealed that breakfast used to be a ‘comfort’ for him, and each day there was a conflict to find out where his next food would come from and where he would sleep.
