The results come in from last week’s survey and they aren’t encouraging – the majority of voters believe the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is overpriced. how come?
Well, part of the problem is that the phone comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage as standard. Although you may not have as much RAM, you can get 256GB of storage. But since the price of 128GB is quite low these days, people are focusing on the price of 256GB and not 128GB. This makes the FE seem expensive, especially when compared to mid-rangers from other brands, which start at 8/256GB or even 12/256GB.
This isn’t just for other brands, with a little patience and shopping around, you can get a great deal on Samsung’s own Galaxy S24+ at the same price as the S24 FE. There’s an argument to be made that the FE will get its own deals and discounts in the future, but its pricing at launch doesn’t seem competitive.
This isn’t necessarily true everywhere, with some commentators reporting great deals on the Galaxy S24 FE in their region. That said, the chances of FE becoming a global hit are slim.
Interestingly, we saw many commentators lamenting the end of the high-end Galaxy A phones, the A70 and A80 series. In a way, the S24 FE fills that niche, but still, the price is higher for the S-series than the A-series and that’s an issue.
Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Highlights
Moving on from the price, some people are unhappy with the size of the Galaxy S24 FE – it’s the largest FE yet with a 6.7” display. And the display diagonal isn’t the whole story, the S24+ also has a 6.7” display, but it’s physically smaller due to the thin bezels. Here, again, the A-series could have helped provide more variety.
Reading the comments, we saw a lot of discussion on the chipset. Now that we’ve benchmarked the Exynos 2400e, we have to say that it’s a very solid chip, even compared to the Dimensity 9300+ and Apple A18. More details on the S24 FE are expected soon – in the meantime, Samsung may be looking to extend the pre-order promo (shipping of the phone officially starts this Thursday, October 3).
