Actor Ajit Kumar, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Anant Nag, filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor and many others have been awarded the Padma Award on the eve of Republic Day. Actor-and-actor Shobhana Chandrakumar was awarded the Padma Bhushan, while Mamta Shankar was awarded the Padma Shri. Veteran Marathi actor Ashok Saraf was also awarded the Padma Shri.

Singer Arijit Singh, Jaspinder Narula and composer Ricky Cage were also awarded the Padma Shri Award, while the late Pankaj Udhas was posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan Samman.

The Padma Awards are presented in three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. This year, 139 Padma Awards were given for his contribution in various subjects – seven Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan and 124 Padma Shri Awards were announced.

While Ajit Kumar is from the Tamil film industry, Anant Nag and Nandamuri Balakrishna are from Kannada and Telugu film industry. Shobhana Chandrakumar mainly acted in Malayalam and Tamil cinema. He is also a famous Bahratanatyam dancer.
