Bengali superstar Posterjit Chatterjee faced a backlash for his behavior towards a journalist, which was to ask questions at the trailer launch of the Hindi film ‘Malik’ in Bengali. During the event to be held on 1 July at PVR, Juhu in Mumbai, Chatterjee questioned a journalist to ask questions in Bengali, who was not sitting well with the Internet.
The incident came to light when a journalist asked about Chatterjee’s role in ‘Malik’ and his views on actor Rajkumar Rao depicting Sourav Ganguly in an upcoming biopic. Chatterjee interrupted the journalist and asked, “Why do you need to talk in Bengali?” His query was captured on the video which went viral.
The Internet expressed its displeasure and accused the Bengali cinema star of reducing his language.
In response to increasing criticism, Prosenjit Chatterjee clarified her stance on Instagram. He shared a long note in Bengali and said he was deeply hurt by how his comment was taken from the context and misunderstood. “A few days ago, one of my punishment went viral on social media. I want to say something about it.” Chatterjee wrote. He explained that the event was mainly held in English and he feared that not everyone present would understand Bengali. “But at that moment I felt that if I responded in Bengali, many people could not understand the correct meaning,” he said.
Chatterjee accepted the misconception caused by his comment, regretting any crime. He said, “Since only one sentence has been shared on social media, perhaps many people were angry with the literal meaning of that statement,” he said, he said that he was also suffering from backlash. The actor further emphasized his deep respect for Bengali language and said, “Bengali is the language of my life, of love.”
Chatterjee concluded his Instagram note by confirming his love for Bengali language and culture. “I can’t dream of doing this even to disrespect my own mother tongue. But for me, the decisions of the people of Bengal will always be supreme,” he wrote. He expressed grief due to any injury, acknowledging the importance of people’s feelings in his life.
Prosenjit Chatterjee played the role of a policeman in the upcoming film ‘Maalik’, showing Rajkumar Rao in the lead role. Directed by Pulkit of Bhaksh fame, the film is scheduled to release in theaters on July 11.
