Sunny Deol confirms role of Lord Hanuman in Ramayana, says he has just started shooting for the film
Sunny Deol surprised fans at the Ramayan trailer launch and confirmed that he will play Lord Hanuman in Nitish Tiwari’s epic saga. The actor called the opportunity one of the biggest honors of his career and shared his excitement about bringing the beloved character to life.
Actor Sunny Deol has confirmed that he will play the role of Lord Hanuman in Nitish Tiwari’s much-awaited epic Ramayan. The actor made a surprise appearance at the film’s grand trailer launch event in New Delhi, where he opened up about playing the iconic role. The actor revealed that he has just started shooting for the film and there is still a lot of time left to complete this challenging role.
Speaking at the event on Saturday, Sunny said,Look, to tell you the truth, I have only done a little work in this, I have a lot to progress. (To be honest, I’ve only worked on it a little bit so far. I still have a long way to go.)”
Talking about playing the character of Lord Hanuman, Sunny described the opportunity as one of the biggest honors of his career.

The 68-year-old actor said,Ramayana is the biggest thing for us and Indians. I thank Wahe Guruji that I got the opportunity to play the character of Hanuman ji. I will try my best to play it properly, because it is not easy to play the character of Hanuman ji. (Ramayana is one of the greatest treasures of India and its people. I thank Wahe Guruji for giving me the opportunity to play the role of Lord Hanuman. I will give my best to do justice to this role because playing Hanuman is not easy).”
“But it will be a lot of fun because he is mischievous, innocent, strong, loved by all and also a devotee of Lord Ram. (But it will be a joyful experience because Hanuman is playful, innocent, extremely powerful, loved by all and the biggest devotee of Lord Ram)”, he said.
The audience clapped loudly on Sunny’s sudden entry into the event. Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Ram in the film, greeted the veteran actor by touching his feet, making it one of the most heartwarming moments of the evening.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. The two-part epic will release in theaters on Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027 respectively.
