The South Indian cinema industry saw various updates, exciting new developments and more last week. As we enter a new week, here’s a quick rundown on all of them.

1. Jailer 2 Announcement Teaser:
After being in the news for quite a long time, superstar Rajinikanth is all set to return to the big screen once again with his iconic character Muthuvel Pandian. In the 4-minute long promo teaser, the superstar was seen announcing the sequel film Jailer 2 with director Nelson and composer Anirudh.
Although the teaser has provided an explosive return of Avatar, the makers have not yet announced details about the rest of the cast, as the shooting is set to begin soon.
2. Pongal and Sankranti Release:
South cinema saw many celebrities enjoying the Pongal and Sankranti festivities last week, with various movies also hitting the big screens this week. As soon as Vishal hit the big screen with his 12 year delayed film Madha Gaja Raja directed by Sundar C, the film became a big hit in Tamil theatres.
On the other hand, films like Daku Maharaj and Sankrantiki Vasthunam also hit the theaters on Sankranthi this year and proved to be hits.
3. Priyanka Chopra Jonas arrives in Hyderabad for SSMB29 functions:
SSMB29 starring Mahesh Babu and directed by SS Rajamouli recently kicked off with a formal puja ceremony. As the shooting of the film is expected to begin soon, the film’s leading lady Priyanka Chopra Jonas was seen arriving in Hyderabad for the shoot.
The actress apparently flew in from Toronto to Hyderabad and is expected to join in on the work.

4. Ajith Kumar Starrer Vidamuyarchi Trailer:
Ajith Kumar is coming to the theaters this year with Vidamuyarchi directed by Magis Thirumeni. The film is an action thriller starring AK and Trisha in the lead roles as husband and wife.
After initially considering a Pongal release, the film will now hit the big screens on February 6, 2025.
