Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunky’ co-star Taapsee Pannu admits she didn’t get paid much for the film: ‘Already a big hero…’

Taapsee Pannu, who made her Hindi film debut in 2013 with Chashme Baddoor, is one of the most talented actors in recent times. The actress was last seen in Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba earlier this year. Shah Rukh Khan’s Danki co-star Taapsee revealed that she has not been paid much for the 2023 film, while revealing that she will be playing a “big hero” in the film.

In a new interview with Indian Express, Taapsee Pannu opened up about the perception of being paid more in big commercial films. The actress revealed that contrary to perception, she gets paid more in female-centric films than in male-centric films like Judwaa 2 and Danky.

Taapsee said that she gets better fees for films like Haseen Dilruba, unlike commercial films which do not pay her much. The Dinky actress emphasized that the producers make her feel as if it is a “favor” to her.

“They think, ‘There’s already a big hero, why do we need another one for him?’ Taapsee said, I fight these notions every day.

The Aayi Haseen Dilruba star further talked about her struggle to get roles in big films. He explained how the heroes choose their heroines in “most of their films” unless the project has a successful director with its specific audience.

Taapsee wants to choose the director with whom she wants to work, however, this is not possible for her. The Naam Shabana actress said that successful filmmakers prefer to work where there is a “big hero associated with a big budget”.

Dinky, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, starred Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. Taapsee was romantically paired with Shahrukh in the 2023 film. The comedy-drama also featured Vicky Kaushal in a special role.

Starring Varun Dhawan in dual roles, Judwaa 2 was released in 2017. Directed by David Dhawan, it stars Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles. The film is a reboot of the 1997 film Judwaa, which originally starred Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Rambha.

Taapsee Pannu has worked in films like Baby, Naam Shabana, Mulk, Pink, Manmarziyaan, Badla, Saand Ki Aankh, Mission Mangal etc.
