He wrote, “Stop getting angry at comedy, India! A society that disrespects comedy and comedians gradually loses the ability to introspect. Jai Comedy!”

His post quickly sparked discussion on social media, with users divided over whether the boundaries of comedy should be lower or whether certain comments deserve public criticism.

When a user commented that “there’s a thin line between humor and passive aggression”, Shourie responded sharply, writing, “No, online outrage over jokes and comedy has become a platform for attention seekers and attention seekers!
