Ponman of Debut director Jothish Shankar surprised a pleasant surprise. The film rarely created any discussion and promotion was less important. But, it is a film that reiterates the fact that an effective story is enough to take you to the world of cinema. We are introduced to Steffi, his brother Bruno and his mother’s life, who is struggling to lead a daily life. How a daughter is marrying a family that does not expects anything, but only reflects the reality of dowry.
Ponman is a character study of many people that we meet every day. While Ajesh is a person who depends on hard work and perseverance, Maryano is a person who has all bronns and has no brain. Bruno is forced to withstand the reality of life, which learns a difficult lesson about his impulsive behavior. Steffi of Lijomol Jose is a woman who is forced into marriage, but gradually it starts to understand that living in unhappy marriage is no use.
The lead cast’s character Arcs made Ponman’s proceedings quite complicated. And two hours-seven minutes runtime is a big property that is trying to express the film. The story of the underdogs always has a special place in everyone’s hearts. Ponman is still another addition and the script gradually sucks you in your world and makes you root for the characters.
Basil Joseph and Sojin Gopu played their respective roles and their face-off scenes brought them to the edge of the seats. The performance of Lijomol Jose shows a woman’s flexibility and how they always become a pawn in the world of men. With great performance and hardly any interval, Ponman is a realistic film that holds a mirror for society.
Ponman is a superhero story of Dalits with a great performance from the lead artists.
