Oscar 2025: CEO of the academy addressed controversies between Carla Sophia Gakson’s ‘historic’ nomination; Urges ‘honor’ for the actress

Carla Sophia Gaskon made history as the first trans actress nominated for the best actress at the 2025 Oscar. However, amidst controversy over the old tweets of her aggressive resurrection, Emilia Perez actress had to leave some of the recent award ceremonies despite being a nominated person.

Gascón is set to attend the Academy Awards to be held on Sunday, March 2. In an interview with the Hollywood reporter, the Academy CEO Bill Kremer addressed the ongoing controversies related to the actress and demanded “honor” if he decided to attend the ceremony.

Kremer clarified that although the academy does not condone the speech of hatred, “Gaskon’s enrollment is” historic “and recognized. He explained that all the nominees are invited and treated with respect, so the same applies to Gaskon, regardless of the current situation.

“If Carla joins us for the night, I hope there is a wind of respect,” he said. Kreer insisted that more than 200 enrolled persons would be celebrated at the Awards Night and the ceremony is much higher than that one person.

On 30 January, shortly after the opening of a historic Oscar enrollment of the Trans actress, journalist Sarah Hagi shared screenshots of her old Islamophobic and anti-black rhetoric tweet. After bringing people attention, Gaskon received an investigation on social media and alleged death threats. He has since deleted his X account.

Later, the actress shared an apology for her insensitive comments. “I want to accept the conversation around my previous social media posts, which hurt,” she told the Hollywood reporter. As a person who belongs to a marginalized community, he sympathized with pain and apologized for generating it.

In addition to Gaskon’s best actress node, Emilia is leading to the Oscar with Parase 12 and nomination, including Best Supporting Actress (Zo Saladana) and Best Film.
