Never in two minds: Aamir Khan says OTT was always the plan for Sitare Zameen Par

Aamir Khan has confirmed that his 2025 film Sitare Zameen Par was always meant for an OTT release after its theatrical release. The film will premiere on SonyLIV with a special documentary celebrating the parents of neurodivergent actors.

Aamir Khan has confirmed to release his film in 2025 stars on the ground On an OTT platform was always part of the plan. He explained that although a digital release was the intention from the beginning, he preferred to wait until after the theatrical release before making it available online.

talking to PTIAamir said, “I was never in a dilemma. I always wanted an OTT release, but not so soon after the theatrical release. So now it’s coming to SonyLIV on April 3, and I want audiences across the country to enjoy the film. Those who haven’t got a chance to watch it in theatres, can now watch it on SonyLIV.”

Along with the feature film, SonyLIV will also stream a documentary called stars of stars. The documentary focuses on the real-life parents of the neurodivergent actors who appear in the film.

Aamir described the documentary as a special content celebrating parenthood. He said, “It’s a very special piece of content because it shows the real superstars. The stars are superstars, but the real-life superstars are the parents of these 10 artistes who have raised them and taken care of them. So this film really highlights the fact that the parents are the real superstars.” He made this comment at a red carpet event during the International Film Festival Delhi (IFFD).

The film performed well at the box office, earning Rs 265 crore worldwide and becoming one of the highest-grossing films of the last year.

This release strategy reflects Aamir Khan’s vision of reaching a wide audience while respecting the theatrical experience. Fans who missed watching the film in theaters now have the opportunity to enjoy it online from April 3.
