Rapper Naezy tells IndiaToday.in how ‘Gully Boy’ negatively impacted his career and mental health, and how his stint on ‘Bigg Boss OTT 3’ helped him change public perception.

Bigg Boss OTT 3 fans were left shocked when rapper Naezy revealed how Gully Boy harmed his career. The Zoya Akhtar-directed film starring Ranveer Singh was based on Naezy, whose real name is Naved Sheikh. The 2019 film received a lot of love from across the world. However, the rapper confessed that it affected his mental state. Talking about this, he exclusively told India Today how the fictional part of the film created confusion among the audience, which led to him being judged.
,After the film was released, I really felt that injustice had been done to me And I went through a very tough time psychologically. The film showed how the hero cheats on his girlfriend, his father had two wives; that was not the case. I come from a very poor family and lived in a small house but that was not my reality. The Indian audience did not realise that all this was fiction. I was judged for a life that was not mine. All this affected me very badly and hurt me a lot. Only when I expressed my feelings openly, I could feel positive about my life now,” Naezy told IndiaToday.In.
The rapper said that ‘Bigg Boss OTT’ was an opportunity for him to break out of the image he had been portrayed in. He said that he not only managed to get free from all the allegations but also changed people’s perception of him.
Though he emerged as the runner-up, he was often accused of playing a slow and safe game on the Anil Kapoor-hosted reality show. Reacting to this, he smiled and said, “I think I became a bit lazy because of my medication. But, I must also say that in the initial days, keeping calm and then hitting back was my game. However, I did not get enough time for that. Keeping calm and keeping myself composed was my strategy. However, it is a learning and I will be proactive in my life now.”
Naezy also revealed that his participation in ‘Bigg Boss OTT 3’ was an achievement for the rapper community. “It was an important moment not only for me and my community but for every rapper. Through the show, I managed to give a true picture of our culture and personality and I am glad that people accepted me. Now I plan to capitalise on this opportunity and keep the momentum going. I am very happy that people from my locality also attended the finale and they were very happy,” he said.
In the end, the young rapper revealed how his father repeated the famous dialogue from ‘Bazigar’ that talks about winning even after losing. Naezy said, “Honestly, I am just grateful for the love I have received. I expected to win but I was also prepared to lose. I think that is why I did not feel sad for even a moment. I took the result positively and I am very happy that my friend Sana Maqbool managed to win.”
Naezy lost to Sana Maqbool Ranveer Shorey was the first runner-up in ‘Bigg Boss OTT 3’.
