My nieces’ houses are flooded with water: Actor Adil Hussain on Assam flood crisis
Actor Adil Hussain has expressed grief over the worsening floods in Assam, as his family grapples with flooded houses in Sivasagar. He urged a comprehensive flood management plan, trying to mobilize help through contacts and social media.
Actor Adil Hussain, born and brought up in Assam, has expressed anger and disappointment over the flood situation in his home state. He said that he has been witnessing devastating floods every year since childhood and he feels that this year is even worse.
Hussain said the recurring crisis has left him feeling “frustrated, angry, sad and depressed”. He also said that his family members in Sivasagar in upper Assam are among those affected, and he is trying to find ways to help them by getting in touch with singer Papon, who is also trying to help people dealing with the floods.

talking about the big situation with Hindustan TimesHussain said, “I have been witnessing devastating floods every year since my childhood and this year it is even more so. I feel very disappointed, angry, sad and depressed because floods are a recurring problem and ever since I grew up in Assam the authorities have not been able to manage the situation. Unplanned townships have developed, marshy lands have been filled with industries and trees have been cut down. There has been no investigation on how to resolve this issue so that people in flood affected areas can live comfortably.” They can get relief and take care of them.”
He said that the crisis has also hit his family. “The houses of my sister’s daughters, my nieces and their husbands are flooded with water in Sivasagar in upper Assam. I am trying to find a way to help them and the situation is terrible,” he said. Hussain said he is in constant touch with Papon as both are trying to help people affected by the floods.
Calling for a long-term solution, Hussain said the need of the hour is a comprehensive flood management plan. He said, “Indian scientists are sending satellites to the Moon and many countries have dealt with the flood situation. The Netherlands has taken back land from the sea. I cannot understand how successive governments are not able to come together and find an expert committee – engineers, landscape planners, city planners – to solve the problem.”
Hussain said he was also trying to escalate the situation through social media and urging people to contribute to help Assam. His comments have come when the state is facing a severe flood crisis. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority reports that more than 5.24 lakh people are affected in five districts, and two additional deaths in the last 24 hours have raised the flood-related death toll in the state to 68 this year.
