Mani Ratnam was recently asked about her view as to why Tamil cinema has not killed a benchmark of Rs 1000 crore at the box office.
During an interview with YouTube channel Gobinath, the filmmaker replied, “Why are we making movies? Is this just because we want to make a high-up film or a film that is authentic and to an extent, a good film? Initially, it was a good film, initially it used to be whether a film was a good, bad, or just average, but now it’s too much, and all all.”
It is being questioned whether such limitations would kill creativity, the director hoped that this would not happen in the coming days.
Mani Ratnam is currently busy with the interview due to the release of his film Thug Life. Gangster Actioner has played Kamal Haasan and Silambarson TR in the lead roles to release on 5 June 2025.
The film of co-pend by Haasan and Ratnam has the story of Sathivale Nike, who is an aging gangster, who is believed to be dead. In his view, the suspicion of his death gave birth to his adopted son Amarran, who has now become the head of his mafia gang.
With vengeance in his mind, Sathivale decided to lead himself to a game of death to deprive Amarran, highlighting how his destiny was always connected.
As Hassan and STR play lead roles, the film stars Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lectmi, Ashok Selvan, Jujee George, Nasar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and a contingent of actors of actors in many more lead roles.
The makers of Thug Life recently participated in the film’s audio launch event. With the unveiling of the entire album composed by AR Rahman, most Netensions noted how a song was chronic by Shruti Haasan.

Coming to the work front of Mani Ratnam, the famous director was last seen halling project Ponin Selvan I and II, which was released in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
