India Today TV has exclusively accessed the FIR lodged in connection with the shooting, which details how a gunman fired several rounds towards the building where Shetty lives.
The complaint was lodged by his bodyguard, Swapnil Salunkhe, 31, who was on duty at the time of the incident.
According to investigators, Mumbai Crime Branch’s anti-extortion cell arrested four people from Pune on Monday evening for helping the shooter and arranging for the two-wheeler used in the crime.
Police have identified one of the wanted accused as Shubham Lonkar, who is said to be associated with the Bishnoi gang, while the shooter is unknown.
In his statement to the police, Salunkhe said he was monitoring CCTV footage in the lobby of Shetty Towers at around 12.45 am on Sunday when he heard a sound like a firecracker.
On checking the surveillance feed, they reportedly saw an unidentified man wearing a black jacket and white trousers standing near the compound wall along Road No. 10 and firing a pistol towards the building.
The attacker reportedly fired five rounds before fleeing towards Pushpa Park. Another bodyguard, Waheed Malik, and a security guard posted at the gate ran outside but could not catch the shooter.
Ashish Rane, a police bodyguard assigned to Shetty, was immediately alerted and informed the local police, who reached the spot shortly after.
The FIR states that the complainant believes that the firing was done with the intention of killing the film producer. Police teams are examining the CCTV footage of the area and tracing the route used by the accused to escape.
As the investigation continues, security has been tightened around Shetty’s residence.
