Harry Styles is speaking for the first time about the death of his friend Liam Payne. One Direction’s youngest member explained how many people expected him to react publicly and loudly to the demise, and despite feeling strongly about it, he couldn’t do so. It follows the Strip That Down singer’s fatal fall on October 16, 2024.
Harry Styles reveals how Liam Payne’s death affected him
During a conversation with Zane Lowe, Harry Styles shared why he chose not to speak much about Liam Payne’s passing until now, saying, “It’s something that even the idea of talking about I feel like I’m struggling with. I think there was a time when he passed away, where I was really struggling to accept how weird it is that people kind of become a part of your grief.”
While other former members have addressed the unfortunate incident, Harry Styles has remained in the shadows, choosing to mourn in private. However, the weight of people’s expectations weighed heavily on his shoulders, “I have very strong feelings about my friend passing away. And then suddenly realizing that maybe other people want you to express it in some way, or that it means you’re not feeling what you’re feeling or something, you know?”
Finally, revealing her thoughts about letting go of someone who had a similar experience to mine, she said, “It’s very difficult to lose a friend. It’s difficult to lose any friend, but it’s much more difficult to lose a friend who is just like you in many ways. It’s like, I saw someone with a kind heart who just wanted to be great.”
However, the Golden hitmaker has since taken it as a lesson in how he wants to work on it by living his life to the fullest and respecting his friend.
