King Charles III has congratulated US President Donald Trump and the American people on the 250th anniversary of American independence, calling the occasion a “truly historic milestone” and expressing confidence that the long-term partnership between the United Kingdom and the United States will continue to grow from strength to strength. In a message released to mark the Fourth of July celebration, the British monarch said he and Queen Camilla were sending their “heartfelt congratulations” to the US, calling the anniversary “a moment of great celebration for Americans everywhere”.The king reflected on the evolution of relations between the two countries, saying that relations have grown “from overcoming conflict to forming one of the closest and most productive alliances in the world”.“Through centuries of shared challenge and achievement, our nations have built a relationship based on friendship, trust and belief in freedom, the rule of law and the dignity of all people,” he said.Charles also highlighted the breadth of cooperation between the two partners, citing defense and security, trade and investment, science, research, education, culture and the arts, which he described as the basis of a “unique and far-reaching” partnership.Looking ahead, the monarch said he was encouraged by the enduring bonds between the two countries and expressed confidence that “the bond between our peoples is one that I am confident will only grow stronger over time.”The king also stressed the importance of protecting the natural world and said both countries shared the responsibility to protect vital natural systems for future generations, linking environmental management to long-term prosperity and national security. The message comes months after King Charles and Queen Camilla paid a four-day state visit to the United States in April, which was held as part of America’s 250th anniversary commemorations.During the trip, the royal couple attended a White House reception hosted by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, addressed a joint session of Congress, and attended events in Washington and Virginia. The Fourth of July marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, when the United States declared its independence from British rule.Celebrations across the country have included parades, concerts, fireworks and official events, with President Trump expected to lead commemorations in Washington, DC.
