‘I don’t want to sound so depressing’: Winona Ryder claims she’s upset by young actors’ lack of interest in movies

Winona Ryder is gearing up for the big release of Beetlejuice , which hits theaters on September 6. At the film’s premiere, the actress opened up about her experience working with young actors and revealed the thing that frustrates her about them.

Speaking to Esquire, Ryder revealed that she has grown from being the youngest on set to now being one of the oldest. Her experience comes from being a film critic, but today’s young audience is not interested in spending hours watching a movie.

Earlier, the Los Angeles Times noted in a profile, “Ryder enjoys interacting with the coming generation of movie lovers who remind her of herself; she tells me excitedly how her ‘Stranger Things’ co-star Finn Wolfhard is crazy about Elliott Gould.” It added, “Still, she gets frustrated when her junior colleagues lack curiosity.”

The above statement was also confirmed by the actress herself when she spoke to the magazine and said that she has spoken to the co-stars, who showed no interest in watching the film or knowing anything about it.

The Heathers actress further commented, “I don’t mean to sound so depressing, but there are some who have no interest in movies. Like, the first thing they say is, ‘How long is it?'”

The actress also spoke about how social media has become the reason for the audience losing interest in films. Speaking to a media portal, Ryder revealed that she knows she is getting old and her advice will not be taken seriously by the younger generation.

Reminiscing the past, the Edward Scissorhands star added, “But I think there was so much there: the history of film, the history of photography, it’s so rich, and there’s so much there, and I don’t mean we should go back, but I want to, and I hope the younger generation will study it.”

Beetlejuice In Beetlejuice, Ryder will be seen playing the role of Lydia Deetz, the mother of Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega. The film is directed by Tim Burton and is said to be a sequel to the 1988 film Beetlejuice.
