Her Reminiscence Special: Colleen Hoover Reveals Why She Chose Tyreek Withers as Ledger Ward

Colleen Hoover is standing on the edge of a cliff that will decide her career in the world of book-to-film adaptations, as the star of Reminders of Him is the only one who can save her. Speaking exclusively to Pinkvilla about how Tyreek Withers was chosen to play the memorable Ledger Ward, he revealed that his qualities as a human being were what attracted him to him, and his ability to portray the role tied it.

About Laser Ward in Reminder of Him

The film is based on the 2022 book, which follows Kenna Rowan’s (Maika Monroe) path to redemption and love after she is involved in a car accident that takes the life of her husband Scotty and sends her to prison for 7 years. She encounters her former partner’s best friend, Ledger Ward, and over time, a bond develops between them as he helps her heal the wounds left from the tragic event.

The choice of Ledger Ward was clearly not an easy one for anyone familiar with the book’s success. So it seems the crew was looking for a guy who could do both, be a vulnerable and understanding person as well as handle tough moments with ease, due to the character’s athletic background.

Revealing details about the search for an actor who embodied the character’s emotional depth and quiet strength, Colleen Hoover explained why Tyreek Withers was the perfect fit. In fact, the novelist found him influential from the very early days of his discovery, thanks to his previous projects. He shared the reasoning behind his thinking that the American star was a suitable choice, “The role required an actor who was capable of commanding the audience’s sympathy while having deep emotional complexity. Tyreek is doing so much with such composure and warmth that it was immediately clear he was the right fit for Ledger.”

Previously, Tyreek Withers has starred in projects including The CW’s Legacies, Tell Me Lies, and The Game, but his most prominent role came in Atlanta, where he played Aaron. He was last seen in the 2025 slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer. However, more than his roles, we believe it was his roots in American football, having played for his alma mater as a wide receiver for the 2017 Florida State Seminoles football team, that made him the perfect catch for Reminder of Him’s Tyreek Withers – as intended.

It remains to be seen how he fares as a protective, sympathetic, and strong presence in Kenna and Diem’s lives. Reminders of the same will be issued worldwide on March 13, 2026.
