The release calendar is getting major updates. The release date of Spirit was announced a few days ago. Shah Rukh Khan starrer King is scheduled to release on Christmas, the official announcement of which is expected soon. And now, there’s an important update on Love & War starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. The film, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, will now hit theaters in 2027 instead of its previously anticipated release this year.
Sources close to the production reveal that a significant portion of the shooting is still pending. Due to this, the makers had to rework the timeline of the film. The current plan is to complete principal photography by June, after which the film will enter the extensive post-production phase. A big reason for the change is simply the scale of the film. Love & War includes massive aerial action sequences that demand heavy VFX work, and those scenes take time to get right. Given Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s reputation for visual grandeur and detail, the post-production process will never be rushed, effectively ruling out a 2026 release.
The other important consideration behind the decision is time. Ranbir Kapoor’s other mega-budget venture, Ramayan: Part One, is scheduled to release in November 2026. Releasing in 2026 would have brought both the films very close to each other. The makers are keen to keep the two tentpole releases separate, keeping a healthy gap between the two, and understandably so. This will ensure that each film gets adequate opportunities and focused marketing.
With shooting now scheduled to wrap up in June and post-production going on till the end of the year, industry insiders suggest that a release in January (Republic Day) or February (Valentine’s Day) 2027 is now likely, if not almost certain. While the delay adds to the wait, it also underlines the makers’ intention to deliver a visually and technically gorgeous cinematic experience.
