Exclusive: Karisma Kapoor recalls when Sachin Tendulkar visited the sets of ‘Andaz Apna Apna’; ‘He was a teen sensation’

Karisma Kapoor has consistently entertained audiences with her films in the 90s and early 2000s, such as Coolie No. 1, Andaz Apna Apna, Hero No. 1, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Jaanwar, Raja Hindustani, Biwi No. 1, and more. Some of the films and songs featuring her in the lead role have proven to be iconic and lasting treasures for cinema lovers over the years.

During an exclusive interaction with Pinkvilla for India’s Best Dancer 4, Karisma went down memory lane and shared some interesting things about her films and songs.

When Sachin Tendulkar arrived on the sets of ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ on the auspicious day

Looking at a monochrome photo from the sets of Andaz Apna Apna, which featured her alongside co-star Salman Khan and director Rajkumar Santoshi, Karisma Kapoor recalled that it was the muhurat shot of the film. “I remember we were all so nervous. I think it was my first muhurat. In those days, there used to be this muhurat, and we had to do this live scene and say a few lines, and we used to be so nervous,” she said.

When asked if he remembered these lines, he jokingly replied, “No.” He further recalled how the team was excited because Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar “was present on the occasion,” adding, “He was indeed a teenage sensation.”

Andaz Apna Apna also starred Aamir Khan and Raveena Tandon in lead roles along with Paresh Rawal, Shakti Kapoor, Viju Khote and Tiku Talsania.

Karisma talks about shooting the song ‘Main To Raste Se Ja Raha Tha’ with Govinda from Coolie No. 1

Recalling the shooting of the famous song ‘Main to raste se jaa raha tha’ from the 1995 film Coolie No. 1, Karisma said that she worked with ‘Chichi bhaiya’ Govinda. “We had shot for ‘Husn Hai Suhana’ before this, so I think we had developed a good chemistry and friendship by then,” she said, adding that this was their first group song.

Karisma Kapoor was last seen in Homi Adajania’s Murder Mubarak alongside Sara Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, Vijay Verma, Dimple Kapadia, Tisca Chopra and Sanjay Kapoor. The film was released directly on Netflix on March 15, 2024.
