Farhan Akhtar and Shah Rukh Khan are one of the most popular director-actor pairs in the film industry. They have worked together on iconic projects like Don, Don 2 and many more. Fans have been eagerly waiting for them to come together again for a long time.
In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, the filmmaker spoke about the possibility of a future collaboration with King Khan.
Farhan Akhtar said he would like to work with Shah Rukh Khan again in the future
In the latest episode of Pinkvilla’s Masterclass, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani came together to celebrate 20 years of their film Lakshya. During the fan interaction, a person asked the two if they see themselves working with Shah Rukh Khan again sometime in the future.
Farhan replied in the affirmative. He said, “Yes, absolutely yes. We will find something that we want to work on together, and I am sure we will.” He further added, “You just have to find something that you can connect with someone,” and again stressed, “100 percent.”

Farhan has previously directed Shah Rukh Khan in the 2006 action thriller Don and its 2011 sequel Don 2. Shah Rukh played the main anti-hero in these films. These films were also produced under Farhan and Ritesh’s banner Excel Entertainment.
In addition, Shah Rukh made a guest appearance in the production company’s film Luck By Chance, which marked the directorial debut of Farhan’s sister Zoya Akhtar. The superstar’s 2017 film Raees was also co-produced by Excel.
Farhan Akhtar is set to direct Don 3 in 2025
Last year, Farhan Akhtar took the internet by storm by announcing the much-awaited third installment of his Don franchise. It was also revealed that Ranveer Singh would be the new face of the character.
The first-look teaser of the film was released in August 2023, which showcased Ranveer’s stunning look and included stunning visuals, powerful dialogues and the famous theme music. The tagline of the teaser was “A new era begins.” Then, in February 2024, Kiara Advani was announced for the lead role in the film.
Recently, while talking to Pinkvilla, Farhan expressed his excitement about starting the shooting of his upcoming directorial venture Don 3. Farhan said, “So, we will start shooting for Don 3 next year. I am really looking forward to it.”
Talking about the long gap between his last directorial venture Don 2 and the upcoming film, Farhan said, “It has been a long gap. However, I cannot complain about it, as I was doing some great films and had a great experience as an actor in those films.” He further added, “But I feel a very strong desire to direct these films, so I am very much looking forward to it.”
Apart from Don 3, Farhan also has the film Jee Le Zaraa, which was announced in 2021 itself. JLZ is a road trip film in which three leading actresses of Bollywood Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt will be seen together. The shooting of the film is yet to begin.
