Pakistani musician Hania Aslam, who was a member of the Zeb-Hania band, passed away on Sunday, August 11. Her cousin and former band member Zeb Bangash confirmed the news in a heartbreaking post on social media. She is said to have died of a heart attack.

In a post shared on Monday morning, Zeb simply posted an old photo of Hania, and wrote “Hanini” in the caption. Many fellow artistes and fans flocked to the comments section to express their shock and offer condolences to Zeb and his family. “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun, all my love Zeb. Your names are forever engraved in music and memory for me. Lots of love (sic),” one wrote, while another added, “I have no words to fill the place you’ll always have in my heart now we know an angel we can call by name.. Rest in peace dear Hania (sic).”

Hania was considered one of the finest Pakistani musicians. She worked on several successful compositions with Zeb as part of the band ‘Zeb and Hania’. However, she moved to Canada in 2014 to pursue a solo career and learn more about music. The duo performed at ‘Coke Studio’ Pakistan, and performed a popular song ‘Chal Diye’.

She also worked as a sound designer for the 2016 Pakistani drama short film ‘Lala Begum.’ Haniya composed the music for the 2016 romantic Pakistani film ‘Dobara Phir Se.’ She has represented Pakistan’s youth music around the world and also co-authored one of the few books written about contemporary youth music in her country.

Hania’s death is a huge loss to the Pakistani music industry.
