Sources also said Vijay has asked producer Venkat of KVN Productions, who was attending the Cannes Film Festival, to return to Chennai. He is now going back amid the latest developments related to the film.

Sources said efforts are now underway to get the necessary approvals as the film has been lying with the vetting committee for several weeks. Once the approval is released, the producers are expected to work to facilitate the release of the film.

Jana Naygan vs CBFC

Jan Naygan The dispute with the CBFC has been going on since December over some scenes, which it was said could hurt public sentiments. The film was also reportedly stopped due to its political content, which was considered potentially influential in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, in which Vijay contested for the first time as the head of his party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), and ultimately won.

After the CBFC cleared the scenes, the makers moved the court seeking a censor certificate before the film’s proposed release on January 9.

This led to a month-long legal standoff and the film was eventually shelved. The producers later withdrew their case against the CBFC and agreed to send the film to a review committee. Since then, there has been no official update on the certification process. Recently there were reports that the film may be released in theaters on May 8, but it has not been certified yet and the makers have not issued any statement on the new release date.

The film also ran into trouble after an HD print was leaked online on 9 April. Following the leak, Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Police arrested nine people, including three key accused. One of the main accused was said to be a freelance editor who had illegally accessed the footage and uploaded it online.

After that, the film’s editor, Pradeep E Raghav, was suspended by the editors’ association for working with an independent editor who was not part of the film body. The association said Pradeep was not directly involved in the leak, but took action to violate its bylaws.
