Film producer and Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) general secretary B Unnikrishnan has accused actor Biju Menon of failing to honor promotional commitments and claimed it has caused financial loss to the producer.

Speaking at a press conference organized by FEFKA and the Kerala Film Producers Association, Unnikrishnan said that the absence of a lead actor from promotional events resulted in a loss of Rs 25 lakh to a producer, which was expected from a television deal.

Later he took the name of Biju Menon while referring to the issue and also pointed out that the actor had not participated in the promotional activities of the recently released film. Valathu Vasathe KallanDirected by Jeetu Joseph.

Valathu Vasathe Kallan is a Malayalam-language crime thriller which was released on January 30, 2026. Directed by Jeethu Joseph and written by Dinu Thomas Elan, the film is produced by Shaji Nadesan and stars Biju Menon and Joju George in the lead roles.

Unnikrishnan stressed that promotional appearances are part of the contract under the Producers Association and questioned the lack of seriousness in fulfilling such obligations. He said, “Promotion is part of the contract of the Producers Association. What I am saying is that at least ten percent of the firmness shown while negotiating remuneration should be shown here also.” Biju Menon has not yet issued any response to the criticism.

He also raised concerns about discipline on film sets and said that the production schedule was affected by the late arrival of some actors. His comments came as FEFKA and the Producers Association signed an amended agreement aimed at improving working conditions in the Malayalam film industry, including a limit of 12 hours of work per day for technicians.
