US President Joe Biden revealed on Thursday that the New Orleans attacker had a remote detonator in his vehicle to set off an improvised explosive device (IED), which he used before crashing his car into the Crown on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. I put it in the ice cooler.
According to CNN report, the FBI has recovered two IEDs, which were kept in a cooler by the attacker Shamsud Din Jabbar.
“They established that the attacker was the same person who had placed explosives in those ice coolers at two nearby locations in the French Quarter just hours before he drove his vehicle into the crowd. They assessed that he had a remote detonator .Their vehicle to close those two ice chests,” Biden said.
Biden also told reporters gathered in the East Room of the White House that he would try to travel to New Orleans, CNN reported.
Meanwhile, the US President said that 15 people, including the attacker, have been killed in the attack in New Orleans on New Year’s night.
The FBI has established that the attacker, who committed this “terrorist act”, was an ISIS supporter. An ISIS flag was found in his vehicle and the suspect acknowledged his support in a series of videos posted online.
Biden assured that the US will continue to pursue ISIS and other terrorist organizations. “We will relentlessly pursue ISIS and other terrorist organizations where they are, and they will find no safe haven here,” Biden said.
Also, speaking about the possible connection between the New Orleans attack and the Las Vegas Cybertruck explosion, Biden said that the investigation is still ongoing, however, no evidence of such a connection has been found so far.
A Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, killing one person and injuring seven others. According to CNN report, the vehicles used in both incidents were rented from car rental site ‘Turo’, leading authorities to look for links between the two incidents.
