Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has Maitlands cameo in extended version of Tim Burton’s sequel; producers reveal reason behind cutting scenes

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice released in cinemas on September 6. While fans have praised the sequel to the 1988 film, the makers have released an extended version of the film which features the Maitlands’ cameo in the movie.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar talked about writing a draft with Barbara Maitland. However, the script was eventually scrapped.

Gough revealed, “It’s funny with the Maitlands because we asked Tim and we went back and forth.” He added, “There was a version in which they appeared at the end, but the problem is they’re ghosts. So they needed to look 35 years older, which was never going to happen. I think Tim felt, and Miles and I agreed, that their story had been told. So how do we move forward from that?”

In the original Beetlejuice movie, the audience was introduced to the fact that Adam and Maitland got married, and when the newlyweds were returning home, their car crashed, and they died. In their afterlife, the couple is kept in a haunted house as ghosts.

Elaborating on the character, the screenwriter claimed, “The first movie is really about the Maitlands,” Gough explains. “It was a really good movie with Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis. They’re the heroes who pit Beetlejuice against the Deetz family. So he said he really wanted to focus on them.” “He wasn’t interested in doing fan service or being a slave,” Gough added.

He added, “I think he was stressing on how do we tell the next version of the story?”

As far as the second part of the Beetlejuice movie is concerned, the audience will get to see new faces like Jenna Ortega, who plays Astrid in the film, and Arthur Conti, who plays Jeremy.

As for the film’s plot, the synopsis reads, “Three generations of the Deetz family return to their home in Winter River after an unexpected family tragedy. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is soon turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter discovers a mysterious doorway to the afterlife.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is running successfully in theaters.
