Avatar: Fire and Ash earned Rs. It grossed ₹34.75 crore (₹28.50 crore)/about US$3.85 million during its second weekend in India. This brings its total earnings to Rs. ₹164.50 crore (Total Rs. 135 crore)/Approximately US$18.25 million. The film is already one of the top Hollywood grossing films in the country, currently ranked seventh. It would move up one place to sixth, overtaking The Lion King, but this is likely to be the ceiling, as fifth place The Jungle Book appears out of reach.
Fire & Ash still has another week of holidays left, during which it will continue to rack up good collections. There is not much competition in Hindi in January, although there will be a lot to watch in the south during Pongal/Sankranti, but it may remain at a low level, as Hollywood films usually do. It will definitely cross Rs. 200 crore gross figure, although Rs. 250 crores seems difficult. Avatar: The Way of Water remains the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India with Rs. Earning of Rs 465 crore.
The film saw a 55 percent decline in its opening weekend, roughly in line with the trend of its predecessor Avatar: The Way of Water. So far the trend has been good; The only problem is that it opened at a very low level initially. After ten days of release, the film is 45 percent behind Avatar 2, one of the largest declines for a film in major markets worldwide. A decline was always expected, but this is a bit much.
The film has performed best in Tamil Nadu, which has been consistent in terms of Hollywood releases on Christmas in the last few years, be it Mufasa last year or Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021 or The Way of Water in 2022. Neighboring Kerala is seeing the steepest decline compared to Avatar 2, with the threequel set to end at around 70 per cent lower. While some may attribute its poor performance to competition from Dhurandhar, the reality is that the Hindi circuit has performed relatively better than Avatar 2 down south, so that’s not the case.
