Amazon US Prime Day deals: Apple and Android tablets and smartwatches, plus headphones

This is the second of four days of Amazon’s annual Prime Day shopping event. Yesterday we took a look at the best smartphone deals. Here we will focus on tablets, smartwatches, headphones and other interesting gadgets.

Amazon is clearing its inventory of 2024 iPads, specifically the M4-powered iPad Pro 13 and iPad mini. The mini uses the A17 Pro chipset, which was designed with Apple Intelligence in mind.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S models are from the flagship series – they’re the only ones with video-capable USB-C ports. The Tab S10 FE Duo supports DeX, but the USB-C 2.0 port limits desktop-like multitasking to the tablet’s own screen.

We’ll also highlight the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active model here. They have replaceable batteries and pogo pins for the dock – the tablets can operate without batteries by running on external power from the dock. It’s primarily for kiosk and vehicle mounting, but you may also find it used at home, for example as a smart home control panel without the worry of a permanently plugged-in lithium battery.

Amazon’s Fire Kids tablets deserve special attention – unlike normal Fire tablets, these don’t have ads by default. Plus, they come with one year of Amazon Kids+, a subscription service that offers ad-free books, games, videos, and apps (including Disney, Marvel, and Lego).

Google Wear OS watches

Note that Samsung watches have 4G options, if you want to be able to receive calls and messages on your watch even when you don’t have a phone with you. There is also a 4G variant of the Google Pixel Watch 4, but it adds something extra – Satellite SOS. This is a great option “in case of emergency” because even if your phone has satellite connectivity, it may be broken or lost.

micro SD card

Most smartphones don’t have expandable storage – and it’s even more useless now as storage prices are rising. Luckily, most tablets still have a microSD slot. However, these aren’t just for tablets.

The Samsung P9 microSD Express uses a faster data bus (SD Express) and is used in the Nintendo Switch 2. The SanDisk Max Endurance is for security cameras where video files can be overwritten for years without the flash memory deteriorating. And then there are more standard microSD cards for general purpose storage – Lexar offers a 2TB extra storage.
