Aishwarya Rai’s iconic red wedding lehenga in Jodha Akbar is now part of the Academy Museum’s exhibition. The intricately designed lehenga with vibrant zardozi embroidery highlights Indian craftsmanship.

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai is featured on the official Instagram handle of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Academy shared a video clip from their 2008 film Jodhaa Akbar along with a special announcement. The announcement revealed that the red wedding lehenga worn by Aishwarya in the film will be part of an exhibition at the Academy Museum.
The lehenga designed by Neeta Lulla is known for its vibrancy filigree The embroidery and peacock motif is entirely made of jewellery. The exhibition, titled Color in Motion, showcases Lehenga as a piece of cinematic history. Part of the caption reads, “A lehenga fit for a queen, designed for the silver screen”.

The video shared by the Academy includes scenes from Jodhaa Akbar, in which Hrithik Roshan plays Mughal emperor Akbar. Aishwarya Rai’s fans expressed their excitement over her presence on the Academy’s page. Some noted the aesthetics of the film, while others pointed out the difference between the clip shown and the actual scene involving the lehenga.
Earlier, the academy has shared clips of Bollywood stars like Deepika Padukone and Shahrukh Khan.
In other Oscar-related news, nominations will be announced on January 17. India’s entry, The Missing Ladies, is no longer in the running for Best International Feature. However, Payal Kapadia’s hopes remain to bag a Best Director nomination for her film All We Imagine as Light. Guneet Monga’s Anuja has been shortlisted in the Best Live-Action Short Film category. The 97th Academy Awards are scheduled for March 3, 2025.
