After the success of the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro, Apple may launch the iPhone 18 Pro in a special deep red color
Following the success of the Cosmic Orange colored iPhone 17 Pro, Apple may choose a “deep red” color for the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, according to a new report.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max sometime in September, while the standard iPhone 18 may be pushed to next year. Rumor has it that, buoyed by the success of the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple is reportedly testing a brand new exclusive finish for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max models will come in a “deep red” color. Apple has made red iPhones before, but they were part of a collaboration with Product (RED), where the money made from selling these iPhones will be used to fund AIDS research and care initiatives. The dark red iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max may be the first non-product (RED) iPhones with a red finish.
Apple is reportedly considering whether to retain the orange color option of the iPhone 17 Pro with a new red color in the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro lineup. As the report states, while keeping both colors is a possibility, some believe that red and orange may be too similar to be introduced at the same time.
Previously, the iPhone 18 Pro was also said to come in purple and brown, but Gurman believes that these color options are “just variants of the same red idea”, as the tones given are quite similar.
The choice of color can carry strategic implications, especially in key markets. In Chinese culture, red color is considered auspicious, symbolizing good luck and success.
The Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro was particularly popular among Chinese buyers, who compared its color to Hermès’ signature aesthetic. The introduction of the dark red finish this time may be largely influenced by Apple’s intention to appeal to the Chinese market once again.
According to Gurman, the “new key color” is actually “still in testing.” While the final lineup hasn’t been confirmed, Apple’s change to an all-aluminum unibody design with the iPhone 17 Pro gives the company more flexibility to experiment with different finishes.
The foldable iPhone, another highly anticipated Apple release, is expected to take a more traditional approach in color selection. According to reports, Apple plans to “stay away from fun colors” and stick to more traditional space like gray or black and silver or white finishes. This suggests that Apple is reserving its boldest color innovations for the Pro series, while its foldable device maintains a classic aesthetic.
