After backlash, Nayantara makes way of returning to the Annaprani OTT

Anna Purani: The Devi of Food, starring Nayantara in the lead role, hit the silver screen on 1 December, 2023. Directed by Nilesh Krishna, the film streaming platform fell on the Netflix, but faced heavy criticism and was eventually removed.

Now, the film is making a comeback in streaming, but with some changes. here are the details.

123 According to Telugu, Anna Purani: The Devi of Food, starring Nayantara, has been slated to start streaming at the OTT platform Gehotstar starting from October 1, 2025. However, only the Hindi-language version will be available to the audience.

The report also shows that the controversial parts of the film have been removed, which has reduced the total runtime to 10 minutes. Now, the revised runtime of the film is 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Anna Purani tells the story of a aspiring chef who dreams of getting a degree in hotel management and becoming a corporate chef like his idol, chef Anand Sundaran. His family comes from a Brahmin dynasty dedicated to serving in the Srirangam temple, where his father prepares the food offered to the devotees.

Being from a Brahmin family, they strictly follow a vegetarian lifestyle. Because of that, his father refused to enroll in a hotel management course, fearing that he would have to handle meat.

Despite his father’s objections, Annaprani is firm to pursue his dreams. She takes her family thinking that she has left, and later fled to Chennai with her friend.

As she attempts to become a professional chef, she catches the attention and jealousy of Anand’s son Ashwin, who stages an oven accident and vandalize her. The accident leaves her with age, a condition that completely destroys her feeling of taste.

The rest of the film shows how Anna Purani ends this major shock and recurs her dream of becoming a chef.
