Yami, I’m a fan all my life: Karan Johar calls Haq an exceptionally empowering film
Filmmaker Karan Johar highly praised Yami Gautam and the film Haq after watching it on Netflix and highlighted its moving story and powerful performances.
Filmmaker Karan Johar has expressed his appreciation RightThe recently released film is now streaming on Netflix, and praised actor Yami Gautam’s performance in the film. Writing on his social media, Johar described the film as exceptionally powerful and how deeply it affected him.
Johar told that Shazia Bano’s story and her victory left a deep impression on him. He said that he had tears in his eyes after listening to the story and expressed regret over the film not having a theatrical release. According to Johar, the experience was so powerful that he applauded it at the conclusion of the film.
In his note, Johar wrote, “Haq, Shazia Bano’s story and victory left me in tears, I was left speechless at the end and then clapped loudly for the film and regretted that I had missed the opportunity to see this exceptionally powerful film in the cinema.”
Johar described Yami Gautam’s portrayal as particularly noteworthy. He said, “I don’t think years of performances have inspired me to say this enough that @YamiGautam is brilliant, outstanding, pathbreaking still not saying enough, his silence, his stare, his final monologue and his stance throughout the film is a master class of craft and conviction, hats off to him!”
Johar also praised director Suparn Verma for his approach, highlighting Verma’s ability to guide the film and bring out the strengths of the characters without relying on theatrics.

He praised Emraan Hashmi’s performance and called it the best of the actor’s career. Johar commented that Hashmi’s impressive portrayal made the audience respond strongly to her character, which significantly contributed to the film’s impact.
Johar praised the production team including Junglee Pictures, Vineet Jain, Amrita, Harman Baweja and Rishu Nath for making it a brave and important motion picture.
