Xiaomi 17 Ultra: Key Features

-One of the biggest changes this year is the design. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra becomes the first Ultra phone from the brand to feature a completely flat 2D display with a flat vertical frame. The move is likely to appeal to users who prefer a cleaner look and less accidental touches. The phone measures 162.9mm in height, 77.6mm in width and just 8.29mm in thickness, making it the thinnest ultra phone released by Xiaomi so far. Despite the thin profile, it still has a big battery and a complex camera setup. Xiaomi is offering the phone in four color options: Black, White, Starry Green with mineral grain texture and a more attractive Cool Smoke Purple finish.

-Display is another major talking point. The 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED panel comes from TCL CSOT and supports 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. With a 1.5K resolution and brightness levels going up to 1060 nits in high-brightness mode, the screen is designed to provide a smooth and comfortable viewing experience in various lighting conditions.

-On the performance front, Xiaomi has equipped the 17 Ultra with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. This combination keeps the phone firmly in flagship territory, whether it’s heavy multitasking, gaming, or long usage sessions. The phone runs Android 16 out of the box with HyperOS 3 on top. Xiaomi is also highlighting improvements in connectivity, including a new antenna system with five signal enhancement chips, support for 51 4G and 5G bands, and UWB ultra-wideband technology for more precise wireless interactions.

-Cameras remain the main focus of the Ultra series, and the Xiaomi 17 Ultra continues that tradition. The phone features a Leica-tuned camera setup led by a 50-megapixel 1-inch Light Master main sensor with optical image stabilization and LOFIC ultra-high dynamic range technology. Xiaomi says this setup improves light intake at the hardware level while maintaining a better balance between highlights and shadows, especially in low-light scenes.

The 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera is another standout feature. Built around a large 1/1.4-inch sensor, it uses a floating lens design and supports continuous optical zoom. According to Xiaomi, users can zoom from 75mm to 400mm seamlessly, making the telephoto system one of the most flexible systems on a smartphone at the moment. A 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera completes the rear setup, while the front gets a 50-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

-Xiaomi has also introduced a new Fireworks mode, which uses LOFIC ultra-high dynamic range technology combined with AI-based scene recognition. This feature adjusts the exposure frame by frame to better handle complex lighting situations like fireworks or high-contrast night scenes, without overexposing bright areas.

-Battery life has been significantly increased with a 6800mAh battery, which is larger than the previous Ultra model. With support for 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, charging speeds remain fast. Even with the larger battery, the phone weighs 224 grams, which is still reasonable for a large flagship.

Apart from the usual flagship features like -stereo speakers, The Xiaomi 17 Ultra supports screen mirroring and control with Apple devices, allowing users to interact with their Xiaomi phone from an iPhone, iPad or Mac. Xiaomi says that through this feature, tasks like ordering food or using QR code for public transport can be accomplished. Two-way screen mirroring is also supported between Xiaomi phones.
