Introduction and Specifications

However, we have already reviewed the Chinese version of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra – in its special Leica Edition. The company is now releasing this ultra cameraphone in the global markets.

The most notable difference between the two phones is the battery capacity – it’s 6000 mAh as opposed to 6800 mAh globally. This may be a downgrade of the model released in China, but it is actually an upgrade from the 5,410 mAh battery of last year’s Xiaomi 15 Ultra. That difference alone was enough for us to revisit the global model for another review, but we also wanted to make sure there weren’t any other differences between the models released in the company’s homeland.

On paper, all other aspects of the globally released Xiaomi 17 Ultra are the same – it’s as impressive a phone powerhouse as the Chinese model – with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, flat and bright 6.9-inch LPTO OLED display, and powerful and versatile camera hardware.

The main 50MP 1-inch sensor remains, and so does the 200MP camera, but this time, it has continuous optical zoom from 3.2x to 4.3x, and since the sensor is quite large, it handles further digital crops very well. The selfie unit has also been significantly improved, now 50MP with autofocus.

Last but not least, this is the first flagship Xiaomi device with global HyperOS 3 that arrives in our office, so let’s take a deeper look and see what the new features are.

Now, a version of the same phone Is Also coming to global markets, although with a different name. This will be the “Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi”. A little-known fact is that Huawei has a high-end, camera-oriented smartphone lineup and the Leitz Phone 3 is the latest model in it. The series is exclusive to Japan, and reportedly, now, for the first time, users outside Japan will be able to purchase it.

The name “Leica Leitzphone Powered by Xiaomi” clearly suggests that Xiaomi is lagging behind with this, although it is still a Xiaomi-made device you are looking at here.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra Unboxing
