The world has seen the Fold and the Flip, and now taking this revelation forward, Huawei has finally launched the world’s first triple-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT. This notification comes just hours after Apple announced the release of the iPhone 16 series. The Mate XT has been released in China and its prices are just as expected. In China, the triple-fold device has a starting price of 19,999 yuan (about Rs 2,35,000). When opened, the smartphone turns into a 10.2-inch tablet-sized screen. Sales will begin on September 20, at the same time as the iPhone 16 series also launches. But the Huawei Mate XT is only available for the Chinese market.

The sale for customers in China will begin from September 20. Looking at the trends, it is highly unlikely that the phone will be launched in India or anywhere else in the global market.

Huawei Mate XT: Specifications and Features

The world’s first dual-hinged, triple-sided smartphone shows off an OLED 6.4-inch display when opened. But the magic begins when it opens. When fully opened, this display expands to 10.2-inches (2,232 x 3,184) and can also be used in a smaller 7.9-inch configuration when partially opened. And when fully opened, the device transforms into a tablet-like 10.2-inch screen. At this point, when fully opened, the device is only 3.6mm thick, making it one of the thinnest phones on the market.

Huawei has integrated some cutting-edge technology into this smartphone, including an ultra-tough laminated structure and the use of non-Newtonian fluid. The phone features a dual-hinge design, consisting of an inner hinge that withstands compression forces and an outer hinge that resists tension forces, allowing for smooth, unidirectional movement and stable positioning of the foldable display.

Although Huawei hasn’t officially revealed the processor on the Mate XT Ultimate Edition, it is expected to feature a variant of the Kirin 9000S chip, which is the in-house processor found on the Mate 60 Pro+ flagship. Additionally, the device is confirmed to run on HarmonyOS 4.2.

The camera system on the Mate XT is also high-end. It has a 50-megapixel rear camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 5.5x optical zoom support. For selfies, there is also an 8-megapixel front camera, which is housed inside a punch-hole cutout.

The company has also revealed that the device has a 5,600mAh silicon carbon battery. It supports 66W wired charging support and 50W wireless charging. According to the company, this is the world’s thinnest battery used in any smartphone worldwide.
