Filmmaker SS Rajamouli has confirmed his much-awaited film Varanasi Will not be expanded into franchises like Baahubali. Speaking during a masterclass at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, the director put an end to the speculation by revealing that the ambitious project is being conceived as a standalone feature.

When asked whether Varanasi Will make a sequel, Rajamouli replied, “A film. Yes, a film.”

The filmmaker, who is currently on a break from shooting Varanasi To participate in the celebration, also highlight the scale and emotional core of the project. While the film promises gorgeous scenes of Antarctica, mythological elements from the Ramayana, natural disasters and fantasy, he stressed that its heart lies in a deeply personal father-son story.

He said, “You are going to experience the cold and snow of Antarctica. The Gods of Ramayana, natural disasters and spectacular elements. This is the experience you are going to get, but at the core of it all is the emotion of father and son. All this makes Varanasi for you.”

Rajamouli’s latest comment comes weeks after his father and veteran screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad revealed fresh details about the film. Vijayendra Prasad revealed this while speaking at the Film Focus event. Varanasi It will feature a 30-minute fight sequence between Lord Ram and Kumbhakarna inspired by Ramayana. Teasing the scale of the sequence, he said that the audience will see Lord Hanuman’s tail, a chariot and an epic conflict that will leave the audience “mesmerized”.

When asked whether the much-discussed scene was mythological or political, Vijayendra Prasad said, “It’s the war between Ram and Kumbhakarna, you saw in the trailer, right? You saw Ram and Kumbhakarna. You saw Lord Hanuman’s tail and a chariot on it. I’m talking about that mesmerizing one.”
