Actors Matt Damon and Tom Holland talked about their admiration for Indian cinema and its audience in an interview with India Today. Damon praised the joy of song and dance in Indian films, while Holland said that watching cinema in India feels like a concert.

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Damon praised Indian films for bringing happiness in life through dance, which is a vanishing skill in Hollywood. Holland compared Indian cinema lovers to concert audiences.

Responding to stereotypes about Indian cinema, known for its songs, dance and colours, Damon said, “Tom is an amazing dancer. He can really do a Bollywood film. I would also like to learn and do my best. I find them so much fun, just energy and joy. The older I get, the more I want to have more happiness and work in my life.”
Comparing Holland’s dancing skills to iconic American actor and dancer Fred Astaire, Damon said, “There used to be a skill set that our great movie stars had because the nature of movies in Hollywood has changed and is disappearing. I want to see him apply that skill set that he has.”
Expressing admiration towards Indian cinema and the audience, Holland said, “I think Indian cinema feels like a real celebration and I think the way you guys experience cinema is amazing, which I’ve never seen before. I’m very fortunate to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and it’s been very well received here (in India). I really enjoy watching you guys on YouTube, seeing those fun moments in cinema. It feels more like going to a rock concert than going to the cinema.
Damon and Holland play father-son duo Odysseus and Telemachus in The Odyssey, based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer. The upcoming film also stars Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jessie Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Raffi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, and Mia Goth.
The upcoming film, co-produced by Noland and Emma Thomas, is set for worldwide theatrical release on July 17.
