Why is Liam Payne’s posthumous single release being postponed? Here’s what we know

Producer Sam Pounds, who collaborated with Liam Payne on his final song before his tragic passing on October 16, has decided to postpone the release of his track, Do No Wrong. Originally set to debut on October 26, Pounds shared this update on Tuesday, October 29. He expressed that, out of respect for Payne’s bereaved family, he wanted to leave the decision of when to release the song in their hands.

“I want all the proceeds to go to a charity of (the family’s) choice (or whatever they want),” Pounds said via X. He added, “Even though we all love the song, it’s not the time yet. We are all still mourning Liam’s passing, and I want the family to celebrate the morning with peace and prayer. We Everyone will wait.”

The One Direction alumnus died on the above date after falling from the balcony of his room on the third floor of the Casasur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The singer visited the South American country in early October to attend a concert by his former bandmate Niall Horan and extended his stay there until his death. Payne was accompanied on the trip by his girlfriend; However, she flew back to her home state of Florida only two days before her tragic death.

The funeral service for the Teardrops singer is still pending, as his body has been kept in Argentina for investigation purposes. Preliminary autopsy reports showed that Payne died at the scene after falling at least 45 feet from the hotel balcony, possibly while intoxicated or unconscious. A toxicology report several days after his death confirmed that drugs, including cocaine and crack, were present in his system at the time of his death.

His father, Greg Payne, survives, who is currently in Argentina to assist investigating authorities and arrange for the repatriation of his son’s remains to Britain; his mother, Karen Payne; sisters Ruth and Nicole; his son, Bear, 7; and his former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik.

In view of his friend’s demise, he also postponed his road show in America.
